Design Group is currently seeking a WASTE MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR (contract) to join our client’s team in Fort McMurray, Alberta. 

The Waste Management Coordinator will be responsible for the safe and cost efficient operation of waste collection and operation of the Waste Transfer and HAZMAT Stations. This includes the supervision of contractors, responding to client requests and resolving issues pertaining to the company processes and procedures as they relate to waste management

CONTRACT DETAILS

  • Fly in / Fly out From Edmonton or Calgary
  • Camp Accommodations
  • 7 Days On / 7 Days off (12 hour days)
  • Approximately 1 year term
  • Prior to starting work, the successful candidate must be Incorporated with own WCB and CGL insurances.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Service Provides within direct area of responsibility in a safe, efficient and cost effective way.
  • Ensure contractors comply with EH&S policies 
  • Facilitate/participate in Safety Audits/Inspections and ILP Investigations. Focus on root cause, lessons learned and methods to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Audit performance of service providers to ensure compliance with contract obligations.
  • Implement operation programs & strategies.  
  • Monitor KPI performance, address any deviation from targets through the development of corrective actions
  • Assist the Operations Area Manager in the preparation of annual  budget and reporting on monthly cost variance
  • Provide input into the business plan to reliably meet or exceed performance expectations in safety, environment, cost and productivity in Non Production Facilities
  • Ensure compliance to all relevant Suncor policies and standards – including the Management of Change (MoC) process and maintenance business processes, and provide input into the development of area-specific procedures and standards
  • Ensure all health, safety and environmental standards are upheld, monitor the effective application of programs and address actions arising from HSE audits (Field Level Risk Assessments, Focused Observations, Incident Learning Program, all external regulatory requirements)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree or Diploma in a relevant technical field or equivalent operational experience with appropriate training and experience.
  • 5+ years of recycling and waste management operations and techniques used in industrial operations including disposal of Hazardous Materials.
  • Experience with waste classification, ERCB/federal manifests, and determine waste disposal location based on analytical results
  • Experience with administration activities in a supervisory capacity.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to think strategically
  • Strong leadership, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal relations skills required
  • A strong understanding of Project Management
  • Proficient in Manpower and Resource Planning.
  • Exhibit competency in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Previous SAP or other Enterprise software experience is an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clear driving record.
