Job Description

Our client, a leading provider of custom and standard AC/DC and DC/DC power supply solutions is looking for a Test Engineering Specialist to join their team of technical professionals.  This is a full-time permanent position located in Markham, Ontario.  Your primary responsibility will be to develop and support ATE, burn-in and life test solutions for the automated testing of complex power conversion products and sub-assemblies.  Key responsibilities include:

  1. Participate in the project test development, equipment selection, construction oversight, environmental oversight and other full service test development activities.
  2. Interpret power supply specifications, schematic diagrams and mechanical drawings to create software, design and build automated test equipment in a LabVIEW environment.
  3. Determine scope, time frame, budget, risk assessment and resource requirements for various program phases.
  4. Analyze and utilize data from pilot scale runs to develop robust production level test plans.
  5. Work closely with the product design team to ensure effective test solutions (with acceptable coverage) and procedures are produced, ensuring compliance with internal and specific customer requirements.
  6. Prepare work instructions, procedures, test plans, reports, project status updates, charts, diagrams, etc.
  7. Initiate product and test specification changes based on qualification and validation test results.
  8. Conduct experiments and simulations as required.
  9. Maintain and troubleshoot test fixtures and associated test equipment.
  10. Provide day-to-day test support (hardware and software) locally and at remote sites while acting as liaison between test engineering and engineering teams.

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics Engineering or Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology + related work experience.
  2. 3+ years of automated test systems development experience within a complex electronics product development environment.
  3. Extensive knowledge of test equipment such as DSO’s, DVM’s, data acquisition systems, AC sources, loads, environmental chambers, etc.
  4. Provide technical leadership to other test engineers and test development for manufacturing.
  5. Familiarity with various communication protocols such as I2C, PMBus, SMBus and ModBus.
  6. Familiarity with various instrumentation communication protocols such as; RS485, RS232 and IEE 488.
  7. Experience programming with languages such as; Visual Basic, ANSI C and LabVIEW is preferred, including experience running automated reports.
  8. Experience with the setup, operation and maintenance of equipment used for testing electronic assemblies in development and production environments.
  9. Able to read and interpret product specifications, schematics and mechanical drawings.
  10. Familiarity with Statistical Process Controls (SPC) and Statistical Sampling Techniques (SST).
  11. Strong knowledge of analog and digital electronics test methodologies.
  12. Ability to use hand and power tools for tester assembly purposes.
  13. Knowledge of specific automated power supply test hardware (such as NHR and/or Chroma) is preferred.
