Job Description

Our client, a leading provider of custom and standard AC/DC and DC/DC power supply solutions is looking for a Senior Power Supply Design Engineer to join their team of technical professionals. This is a full-time permanent position located in Markham, Ontario. Your primary responsibility will be to lead a Power Supply development project from inception through to manufacturing release. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Lead, mentor and supervise design engineers and technologists through the new product development process.
  2. Provide technical leadership to other cross-functional disciplines such as PCB layout, mechanical design, qualification engineering, test engineering, manufacturing engineering, quality assurance, etc.
  3. Select appropriate topologies, design circuits, perform schematic entry, calculations, simulations, prototyping and testing of new designs and enhancements.
  4. Implement microcontroller firmware and hardware for power management/control functions.
  5. Interface with customers to communicate technical information such as negotiating specifications, implementing new requirements, features and customizations.
  6. Having decision making and sign-off authority, ensure projects are specification compliant as well as delivered on-time and on-budget.
  7. Ensure/verify the technical integrity of designs while meeting aggressive cost and timing goals.
  8. Ensure designs conform and are documented in compliance with corporate engineering and ISO9001 procedures.
  9. Maintain current with innovations and trends within the Power Electronics industry.

  1. Electronics Engineering Degree.
  2. 7+ years experience in analog circuit/switching power supply (AC/DC and DC/DC) design (up to 5KW).
  3. In-depth knowledge of professional standards and precedents in power supply design.
  4. Extensive experience with various topologies and technologies such as Forward, Boost, Flyback, Full/Half Bridge, ZVS, PFC, Hot-Swappable, Soft Switching, Synchronous Rectification, Current Sharing, N+1 Redundancy, I2C, etc.
  5. Experience and knowledge in resonant converters such ass LLC converters.
  6. Extensive magnetic design experience.
  7. Extensive analog circuit design experience including micro-controller interface, sensing and calibration techniques.
  8. Experience with simulation tools such as PSPICE, MathCAD, Flotherm.
  9. Experience designing to meet and testing to stringent EMI/EMC requirements.
  10. Experience with safety/regulatory requirements (UL, CSA, TUV, VDE, etc.).
  11. Experience with low cost and high density electronics packaging design (SMT, PCB layout techniques, planar transformers, EMI, thermal management).
  12. Knowledge of tooling requirements for high volume products (plastics, metal, PCB, production test, etc.).
  13. Experience with high volume manufacturing requirements (i.e. DFx).
  14. Knowledge of embedded design as it applies to power supply designs is an asset.
  15. Must be able to travel to the U.S.
