Senior Project Manager – ICI Mechanical Contracting

Design Group Staffing is pleased to be working with our partner, a well-established design-build mechanical contracting company focused on complex ICI projects throughout the lower mainland. This role will be based out of their Surrey office and will involve travel out to project sites as needed. As a Senior Project Manager,  you will be working closely with superintendents, project coordinators, estimators and foremen to optimize costs and schedules, use of personnel, planning and maintains flow of information on all assigned projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

1) Reviews project estimate and scope of work on awarded projects.

2) Provides input to the General Manager in establishing cost control codes and the project budget.

3) Monitors project costs closely via cost reports & site visits & implements

corrective action as necessary.

4) Reviews and recommends any special equipment requirements.

5) Develops a manpower plan in conjunction with the Construction Manager.

6) Drafts subcontracts, issues Purchase Orders to trades and major suppliers.

7) Solicits, reviews, and tracks all shop drawings required for projects.

8) Ensures equipment and material are delivered to job sites in a timely and

cost effective manner.

9) Manages issues arising out of equipment and sub-trade selections.

10) Manages change order Purchase Orders and Change Orders to sub-trades.

11) Communicates with project staff and General Manager on pertinent issues.

12) Ensures installation complies with applicable regulations, is cost effective,

and meets customer’s expectations.

13) Attends or assigns attendance at site meetings and deals with issues.

14) Ensures effective management and reviews weekly progress/ site meetings

on all assigned projects.

15) Provides technical assistance & mentoring to staff as required.

16) Reviews, prices and tracks all change notices.

17) Identifies and pursues compensation for additions to the scope of work.

18) Prepares monthly project billings & forecasts of costs to complete.

19) Reviews and codes invoices & subtrade billings on assigned projects.

20) Attends and reports as Division review meetings.

21) Pre-Plans and executes project close-out requirements.

22) Ensures warranty issues are handled promptly, cost-effectively and


23) On BIM designated projects, coordinates our Building Information

Modeling (BIM) activities with the company’s BIM resources & staff as

well as subtrades, clients, consultants, and other project trades.

24) Keeps current on new products and services to ensure


  • Over 7 years of experience in a project management position in a mechanical contracting company, with prior experience managing institutional, commercial or light industrial projects in excess of $8 million.
  • Must be capable of managing 2-3 projects worth $2-20 million simultaneously.
  • Experience with BIM/Revit is an asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in mentoring and development of junior team members.
  • Proven ability to guide safe work practices in a high-pressure environment while maintaining project safety, quality, schedule, and budget
  • Strong foundation in project management, contracts and the execution of projects from the estimating stage through construction. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with multiple project stakeholders, interpret stakeholders needs, and identify solutions.
