Design Group Staffing is currently recruiting for a Project Engineer – Piping / Construction opportunity for an exciting and innovative organization located in the Hamilton area.  If you like to think outside the box and add value to dynamic projects, then this role may be for you!

Our client is a provider of welding solutions to the construction and power energy industries. Through the use of state of the art technology, advanced weld engineering, skilled trades and project management, they offer customers a cost effective, high quality service and product. 

 A Project Engineer (PE) will liaison between the Project Manager (PM), customer and technical disciplines involves in the project. The PE is responsible for scheduling pre-planning and resource forecasting for engineering and technical activities related to the project. He/she will support the Welding Engineer and/or Project Manager monitor and ensure the execution of the project compliance with the engineering and quality requirements. At site, the Project Engineer will interact with the customer on technical matters. The PE will collaborate with PM and Superintendents to communicate the technical requirements and ensure the project is executed according to the design and installation plans.  

The Project Engineer must be willing to travel throughout North American and Europe. Approximately 80% of the Project Engineer’s work time will be spent travelling. The shift times will change dependent on project requirements and the Project Engineer must be willing to work long hours and multiple shifts. Project site conditions are comparable to construction environments found in Oil & Gas industries, shipyards, industrial sites and nuclear facilities.  

 Typical Duties Include (but are not limited to): 

•        Collaborate with the Welding Engineer, Quality Assurance Manager (QAM) and Project Manager to develop the project objectives, schedule and technical requirements. 

•        Determine the project site specifications and communicate requirements to the Project Planner. 

•        Develop the construction work packages (CWP) outlining the project design.  

•        Assist the WE and QAM to develop work plans, flow charts, ITP and direction for weld development activities. 

•        Work with the E Tech, Equipment Coordinator or Tool Lead to ensure all appropriate equipment is functional and available for all welding activities. 

•        Ensure weld development activities are code compliant and executed to the quality plan.  

•        Purchase and/or delegate the purchase of welding materials, consumables and supplies for welding activities. 

•        Interface with the customer to communicate project status and technical considerations.  

•        Assist QCI, WE and PM in shipping or distributing weld samples to inspection/test vendors or customers. 

•        Use weld technique sheets, ITP, weld matrix to record and track welding activities. 

•        Monitor welding conditions, procedures and welding results. 

•        Responsible for troubleshooting and problem-solving welding challenges. 

•        Escalate concerns related to equipment conditions to ensure acceptable equipment performance.  

•        Work with the WE, QM and PM to ensure acceptable weld development procedures and processes. Also, to ensure that weld techniques are created as required by the contract scope.  

•        Support the Superintendent with pre/post job content and/or communication of the project status. 

•        Prepare project status reports during execution. Produce a project report on completion of the project.

 Key Education/Experience Requirements: 

•        Experience with robotic welding equipment is preferred 

•        Experience in leading welding teams is preferred 

•        4+ years’ work experience in construction is an asset 

•        Bachelor of Engineering preferred. Technical college diploma or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience will be accepted
