Job Description

Our client, a leading provider of automation products is seeking a Product Specialist to join their team.  This is a full-time permanent position located in Toronto, Ontario.  Reporting to the National Sales Manager, your primary responsible will be to manage a specific product line within defined strategic industries throughout the entire product lifecycle.   Key responsibilities include:

  1. Provide direction in terms of product knowledge, product positioning and market expertise to customers, sales teams and channel partners.
  2. Assist with distributor technical product training and supporting customers at sales events and tradeshows.
  3. In collaboration with divisional resources, manage a defined product portfolio by implementing product plans, pricing strategies, profitability strategies and other strategic initiatives to ensure sustained profitable growth.
  4. Plan, implement and measure product promotion, product launch and marketing activities including the successful introduction of new products to sales channels.
  5. Coordinate key milestones, launch objectives, sales tools, promotional literature, pricing information, product availability, market messaging and identify target customers.
  6. Research and understand competitor’s strategies and technologies, determine customer’s future needs and communicate to R&D to ensure competitive advantage for the company.
  7. Identify non-traditional/disruptive market opportunities for assigned products.
  8. Engage and develop partnerships with key Strategic Industry Teams, Internal Sales Teams and Application Specialists to collaboratively develop sales and marketing activities.
  9. Track and measure key metrics within the CRM to verify and report on business performance and growth including the impact of marketing programs on market penetration, growth and profitability.
  10. Travel as required (estimated 25% max.).


  1. University degree or College Diploma (Electrical, Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical is preferred).
  2. 4+ years’ experience in industrial automation or related field.
  3. 3+ years’ experience producing marketing plans and strategies for new product launches.
  4. Technical background in Industrial Safety technologies and applications involving hardware and software integration.
  5. Understanding of the customer acquisition and sales process.
  6. Ability to understand and interpret various Canadian regulatory/safety requirements (i.e. CSA, ANSI, ISO13849, etc.) in terms of ensuring product are utilized in a compliant manner and fit for purpose.
  7. Familiarity with and ability to support customers with PSR’s (Pre-Start Health & Safety Reviews) for new machine/start-up applications.
  8. Strong communication (verbal and written), presentation and interpersonal skills with extensive experience interacting directly with customers and delivering distributors training presentations.
  9. Experience managing and planning for product obsolescence.
  10. Strong computer literacy including MS Office, CRM Systems and MS PowerPoint.
