Job Description

Our client, a leading provider of AC/DC and DC/DC power supply solutions is looking for a Power Supply Design Engineer to join their team of technical professionals.  This is a full-time permanent position located in Toronto, Ontario.  Your primary responsibility will be to provide support to a Sr. Design Engineer on power supply or sub projects of varying complexity from inception to manufacturing release.  Key responsibilities include:

  1. Under the direction of a Sr. Design Engineer, design circuits and perform tests and evaluations for new designs and enhancements.
  2. Perform schematic entry, calculations, bread-boarding and prototyping throughout the product design and development process.
  3. Ensure/verify the technical integrity of designs through verification and validation testing.
  4. Implement microcontroller firmware and hardware for power management/control functions.
  5. Support all efforts to ensure designs meet cost and schedule requirements and conform to corporate engineering & ISO 9001 documentation procedures and best practices.
  6. Interface directly with customers and/or vendors to communicate technical information as required.
  7. Supervise, mentor and support design technicians and technologists as required.
  8. Support other cross-functional disciplines such as PCB layout, mechanical design, test engineering, manufacturing engineering, etc. as required.
  9. Participate in formal technical design reviews.
  10. Maintain current with innovations and trends within the Power Electronics industry.

  1. Electrical/Electronics Engineering Degree.
  2. 5+ years’ experience with the development and testing of high frequency/efficiency/power density, switch-mode power supply designs.
  3. Experience in various technologies and components used in high-efficiency power supply design.
  4. Experience with the use of simulation tools such as; MathCAD and PSPice.
  5. Experience with safety/regulatory and EMC requirements.
  6. Experience with high density electronics design & packaging including SMT, multi-layer PCB layout techniques, planar magnetics, EMI suppression and thermal management techniques.
  7. Hands-on product development experience including; bench testing, soldering components, EMI and thermal testing, bread-boarding, troubleshooting, etc.
  8. Understanding of the phase/gate product development/qualification processes and well-disciplined in complying with stringent documentation controls and processes.
  9. Knowledge of tooling requirements for high volume products (i.e. plastics, metal, PCB, production, test, etc.).
  10. Experience with high volume manufacturing requirements (i.e. DFx).
  11. Knowledge of embedded design as it applies to power supply design and functionality (i.e. power management and/or power control) is an asset.
