Job Description

Design Group is partnered with a highly respected midstream and downstream operator in their search for a Manager Operations. This role is field based in Saskatchewan and will be responsible for the optimal operation of a large scale processing facility.

The Manager Operations serves as the senior field level leader providing leadership, support and direction for the safe and reliable operations of our client’s operating assets in an assigned area.  The primary responsibilities of this role are to oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance, operating budget, resource management, and employee development for their assigned area; working to optimize the assets while ensuring and promoting a culture of safety.


  • Maintains safe, reliable operations in compliance with regulations, operating agreements, and Company standards, quality assurance and asset integrity programs.
  • Manages operating and sustaining capital budget for assigned area, by recognizing non-value added expenses/costs and providing leadership to direct and encourage value added decisions.
  • Maintains integrity of the assets by overseeing asset integrity programs for equipment performance and maintenance, inspections, pipeline leak detection, and chemical and corrosion programs.
  • Collaborate with other operating areas to promote the company’s corporate culture and focus on operational excellence and EH&S commitment. 
  • Participate and engage in development and implementation of Operations Management System (OMS).
  • Develop and foster strong, positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including the Union or Association as applicable.
  • Understands both internal and external customer needs and provides the best service possible.
  • Provides management to direct reports to achieve operational excellence in all facets of assigned facilities operations.
  • Mentors and assists staff with the development and execution of annual goals, aligned with Operations and Engineering and corporate strategy.
  • Support training and talent development programs targeted at attaining applicable job skills and increased accountability at all levels of operations.
  • Develop and maintain a resource management plan for staff and contract personnel.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.


  • Strong operational knowledge and ability as it relates to crude oil processing (upstream and downstream) as well as terminal and pipeline assets
  • Financial management acumen for budgets and operations
  • Lead and promote continuous improvement of work processes and systems
  • Ability to prioritize assignments, deal with interruptions, make quick on the spot decisions, and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with functional and operating areas
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Represent and promote the company in a responsible, positive and professional manner


  • 15+ years of varied experience in the operation and management of crude oil terminals, pipelines, NGL/refined product storage and handling facilities and rail and truck load/offload racks and associated measurement facilities
  • 5+ years in a managerial or lead position.
  • Senior level supervisor of safety sensitive facility operations
  • Knowledge of current governing codes, standards and regulations
  • Understanding of truck transportation and crude oil or related marketing is an asset
