Job Description

Field Engineer: Talentcor is seeking a Field Engineer on a 3 months long contract for our Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing industry client in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Field Engineer, Accountabilities

  • Supports the ITO phase of projects with planning and test procedure development.
  • Supports the OTR phase of projects for implementation of the commissioning plan and coordination between design engineering, equipment suppliers.
  • Identify requirements and scope of work, review specifications, drawings and other documents of the project and establish applicability to the scope of work.
  • Carry out a detailed assessment of the commissioning work involved and assess the available resources and possible constraints in its execution.
  • Ability to review contractual documents and identify project requirements and constraints / risks.
  • Be continually present on the field to guarantee the quality and progress of the work.
  • Ability to perform Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and tool box talk to executing the activities.
  • Provide necessary inputs to commissioning proposals at the bidding stage.
  • Inspect and ensure all construction activities are completed prior to taking up the system for commissioning and ensure the setting up of safety procedures for the same.
  • Ensure that all safety and precautionary requirements and procedures are followed during the commissioning.
  • Ability to lead subcontractor for the safe execution of Pre-Commissioning / Commissioning activities in line with the schedule.
  • Be aware of cost monitoring, control expenses, and report overruns to management.
  • Hold regular review of risk assessment/meeting with the client on issues such as EHS.
  • Attend daily meeting with Commissioning manager and team leaders to update the progress and receive daily reports.
  • Regularly contact discipline engineers and supervisors for solving problems related to project execution work safely.
  • Regularly communication with Sub-contractor execution team.
  • Liaise and coordinate with commissioning engineers/supervisors and provide them support and guidelines for technical commissioning related issues.
  • Direct the daily activities related to electrical FAT/SAT, energisation and functional testing.
  • Provide technical support and problem resolving on different electrical equipment: transformer, HV/LV, Switchboard, motors, relay protection systems.
  • Ensure all testing document are available to the testing team and coordinate with field electrical engineering the any corrective action required on the document.
  • Identify any design failures or discrepancies that may be lessons learned for future projects and report same via line management.
  • Perform any other related duties and responsibilities as and when directed by the Supervisor.

Field Engineer, Mandatory Requirements

  • Bachelor of science degree in electrical or equivalent
  • A minimum of 2 years electrical or mechanical engineering/commissioning experience
  • Background in building services, electrical works and commissioning
  • Site commissioning experience
  • Prior experience in substation/switchyard commissioning
  • Organizational, program development and planning mind set
  • Experience on people management

Field Engineer, Contract Length: 3 months (from start date)
