Inteqna Markham is looking for an Enterprise Architect

The Enterprise Architect is responsible for the design of the enterprise architecture including its applications, information and technical architecture process.  This includes the design and implementation of business models and the application services within the over-all computing infrastructure and capturing the requirements for these services in order to identify the techniques and technologies required.  The Enterprise Architect is also responsible for identifying the types, the organization, and collaborations of software components needed for delivering the defined user services; as well as, assisting with the defining of data elements and models, ensuring the definitions are granular and pragmatic enough to allow business processes to be performed efficiently and effectively. 


  • Drive advances in technologies and architectures in order to increase the value delivered by technology either through improvements to the efficiency of our technology environment or through those that reduce the total cost of technology operations
  • Define architectural standards for all technology services and components (applications, data, integration, technology, security, business)
  • Create certainty, clarity nd simplicity within the IT Infrastructure by increasing re-use and reducing redundancy in applications and technology designs
  • Lead the development and/or renewal of infrastructure standards, policies and quality of service standards as well as manage any exceptions to the process. Ensure that these standards and policies are in alignment with regulatory, legal, and corporate compliance requirements
  • Lead the development, propagation and adoption of Enterprise Architecture Governance across IT through implementation of TOGAF principles Lead the development of architectural-related artefacts based on TOGAF deliverables
  • Apply critical analysis as it relates to technical feasibility studies, system design artifacts, UML designs, and business requirement documents
  • Participate with business units in requirements gathering, approval and acquisition of standard and non-standard technology components and services. Where a non-standard solution is identified, document the implications of implementation within the environment recommending an appropriate course of action
  • Ensure that infrastructure architectures are flexible and support the business needs by maintaining an understanding of business strategies and infrastructure capabilities
  • Assist with projects and initiatives by assessing proposals and designs for architectural compliance (application, data, infrastructure and business solutions) before, during and after implementation
  • Responsible for creation of an annual technology plan and assists with the IT department strategic planning effort by providing input on technology trends and identifying opportunities for leveraging technology
  • Lead technical performance assessment of systems
  • Assist with projects by assessing proposals and designs for application, information and technical architecture compliance – before, during and after implementation
  • Assist with the IT strategic planning effort by providing input on technology trends and identifying opportunities for leveraging technology
  • Identify and assess technologies that may have a significant impact on the technology or business environments or that may provide a cost savings
  • Liaise with planners and decision-makers to interpret technology impacts and the implications of adding new technology to the environment


  • University degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent educational or professional experience and/or qualifications
  • Must have understanding of the life insurance business and financial services (e.g. Policy Administration, New Business/Underwriting, Claims, Billing, Compensation) and how technology solutions play a key enabler role
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain knowledge of IT infrastructure architecture, standards and practices and consistently apply these standards accordingly
  • Work experience in applying TOGAF and/or enterprise architecture frameworks within an organization
  • Proven experience in service-oriented architectures including ESB, WS-* standards, SAML, service registries, SOAP, XML, web services, BPEL, integration design patterns, and governance
  • String working knowledge of mainframe systems
  • Strong working knowledge of software development methodologies including RUP, Agile, Extreme Programming, SDLC, and Waterfall
  • Understanding of information technology security, confidentiality and privacy practices and regulations
  • Strong verbal and written business and technical communication skills
  • Ability to map technology to business problems and vice-versa
  • Ability to lead and inspire others through conviction and vision – able to market solutions and exercise influence through the power of ideas rather than by mandate
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to facilitate technical reviews or design sessions
  • Superior analytical/problem solving and critical thinking abilities
  • Effective time-management with the ability to work under constantly changing conditions and tight deadlines
  • Familiarity with the following infrastructure domains:

          - Wintel Servers

          - HP/UNIX Servers

          - Mainframe (OS/390, Z/OS)

          - Virtualization Technology (VMware)

          - Windows Operating Systems

          - Storage - SAN/NAS

          - Directory Services (LDAP, Active Directory)

          - Networking and Telecom

          - Infrastructure security and protection
