Engineering Manager – Food Processing

Design Group Vancouver has another exciting opportunity for an experienced and innovative Process Improvement Engineer with experience in food processing.  Supporting our client; an innovative leader in manufacturing and food processing; you will be responsible for researching, developing, designing, and testing a wide range of machinery and systems. You and your team will be responsible for implementing and executing project plans from design through to installation and testing. This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer who enjoys problem solving and high-level planning. Each project presents modern design challenges and the ability to make a real difference in manufacturing processes. Your Challenge

To manage and mentor the engineering team in a positive manner with a consistent focus on growing people and improving processes. You will provide insight and experience in engaging staff and build relationships internally and externally. You will demonstrate business acumen and exceptional communication skills in English, both written and verbal. You will have the opportunity make an impact on the manufacturing process with a focus on performance, budget, safety and compliance.   You will also be responsible to support manufacturing productivity improvement projects in other locations. Responsibilities in this role include but not limited to:

  • Providing technical leadership and guidance in process and equipment design and development including
    • Plant Equipment Specifications, acquisition and installation
    • Machine Tooling
    • Service Engineering
    • Equipment Repair or Overhauling
    • Labour Scheduling

  • Developing or sourcing technologies and then implementing them to enhance existing systems
  • Fostering a culture of creativity in design while maintaining compliance in process
  • Managing capital forecasts within fiscal plan including preparation of written capital projects, submittal for funding, and the execution thereof within plan
  • Ensuring the execution of scope, schedule, cost and cashflow of all projects is as agreed in CPA
  • Developing 2-5 year strategic capital plans specific to each site
  • Managing employee morale; keeping a cool head when the pressure rises
  • Embracing and driving change while staying barest with emerging technologies 
  • Driving employee morale, while demonstrating expertise, confidence and enthusiasm for ongoing objectives

Your Background

The individual we are seeking should be a proven leader with a minimum of five years’ experience in food processing and background in project management. As an essential member of the leadership team an ability to hit the ground running will be essential to success in this role.,

 management with a resume which includes the following:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Food Processing with Project management experience
  • An engineering Degree in either Mechanical or Chemical Engineering – P.ENG is an asset
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, MS Project, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficient Skills with tools to analyze, downtime tracking, mechanical history, and project planning to identify opportunities.
  • A proven track record managing teams
  • Design and management experience in Food Processing or
  • Knowledge and understanding of current and cutting-edge technologies in automation and controls used in food manufacturing.
  • Ability to work effectively both in a team and independently
