Design Manager-Furniture Manufacturing

Our client is a Boutique Furniture Design Firm that specializes in the design and manufacture of high-end, custom furniture for the North American hotel market. Located in the Fraser Valley this company has seen substantial growth in recent years and are looking to build their internal infrastructure with the addition of a locally based Design Manager. This Design Manager will manage all aspects of the design and drafting department and have the opportunity to collaborate on large scale projects throughout North America. As a key member of the leadership team this role will direct and mentor a team consisting of both local and remotely based designers. Duties Include: 

  • Scheduling, managing and executing design projects to meet established deadlines
  • Developing and implementing a system which tracks the time spent on individual projects
  • Determining and delegating workload for staff
  • Recommend effective processes and procedures to improve the workflow and maximize efficiency
  • Communicates clearly and effectively
  • Directing all design activities from initial contact through final on-site installation
  • Responsible for process development and standardization of information
  • Will create standards within the products that optimizes the design and quality of the products
  • Working closely with the model room construction to ensure the accurate design detailing and the product meets or exceeds the quality expectations. 

Requirements: 

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in architecture, furniture design and or project management
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably with an architectural design emphasis, or in Furniture or Industrial  Design
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and able to manage fluctuating priorities.
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, modelling techniques and Fusion (for renderings).
  • Proven ability to work within a Mac environment
  • Proven ability to communicate with clients in a collaborative manner
